Homesteading comes with a lot of responsibilities. Generating income, taking care of the animals, their shelters, attempt to provide quality food for your family while maintaining a healthy lifestyle and many more, but that is all another topic and I will cover ways to accomplish those and many other daunting task on the homestead in another blog. Growing up I was taught to find good in things and homesteading makes that easy because there is a lot of amazing things about homesteading.

1. Growing your own food
Growing your own food, from vegetables and fruit to meat in the freezer, is a major plus. If you like knowing how your food was raised, homesteading will help with that. We believe that homegrown food can be better than organic. Whether you decide to grow all or part of your food it can help with expenses.
If you have children, nieces or nephews it can help them learn responsibilities like cleaning, feeding and caring for animals, or even caring for plants and trees. Our two boys love every part of it. They help feed and water the animals, and also help pick food from the garden. When it comes time to harvest, it is very rewarding when you see the fruits of your labor.

2. Sharing your experiences and listening to others While you can do this with anything, this one is important because it helps you to remember why you love what you do. There are many ways to do this; video, blog, scrapbook for your children to read and look at, or just talking with others about what you are doing, planning, and have already done. Doing this can help with creativity and also can help you learn from others' mistakes. It is always a good plan to take time and listen to others.
3. Nature
Living in Missouri on 14.6 acres we see deer and many other wild animals. You don't need a lot of land to enjoy nature. A small piece of land in a quiet area works great. This is one reason why we LOVE homesteading. We always get to see nature at its best; sometimes at its worst too. Wildlife is amazing to watch in their natural environment. It makes us respect nature more.
4. Time
Time is a really big one. Time is given in one sense and taken back just a little differently. Before when I was in the world of Emergency Medical Services I was always short on time. If you've ever worked in EMS or any career for that matter you know the struggle of juggling religion, family, and work. Depending on your style of homesteading the time you have changes in each of the areas. The major benefit in the way we homestead is that our work is done as a family therefore learning, building and spending more time as a family and though you can't physically make more time, you can manage time more wisely.
5. spending time with family
Family is very important, being there to share moments that you might not otherwise get to share, such as your kiddos first steps or words. Homesteading allows time management to be used more wisely, for family and friends. For us we feel that we are able to get more quality time with our family because not only are we working together we can talk, play, teach, learn or even step away from what we are doing to take care of family needs. Family is important and life is short, enjoy and cherish every moment .
